CONUAR Advances Metal Additive Manufacturing with UNAHUR for Nuclear Applications

CONUAR continues to strengthen national technological innovation through a strategic alliance with the National University of Hurlingham (UNAHUR), consolidating a pioneering project in metal additive manufacturing based on Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) technology.

This initiative marks a milestone in technology transfer between academia and industry and is focused on the development and validation of advanced applications for critical components in the nuclear sector.

Implementing LMD Technology in High-Demand Industrial Environments
The project leverages the Meltio Engine system, which utilizes a wire-fed laser deposition process. This integration enables the manufacturing of metallic components with several advantages over traditional fabrication methods, including geometric versatility, material savings, and in-situ repair capabilities. This approach opens new possibilities for the design and production of components subject to extreme conditions, characteristic of the nuclear industry.

Academia-Industry Synergy: A Model of Applied Innovation
The collaboration between CONUAR and UNAHUR accelerates the technological readiness of LMD in real industrial environments. This ecosystem enables:

  • The integration of scientific capabilities with concrete production requirements.
  • Practical validation of the technology under nuclear operating conditions.
  • The development of specialized technical talent in metal additive manufacturing.

Cross-Sectoral Impact: From Nuclear to Aerospace
Beyond its applications in the nuclear field, the knowledge generated through this initiative extends to other high-demand industries such as aerospace, expanding the project’s reach and enhancing horizontal technology transfer.

Advanced Manufacturing and Technological Sovereignty
This strategic partnership contributes to the development of national capabilities in advanced digital manufacturing, positioning Argentina at the forefront of metal additive technologies. The project reinforces the scientific-industrial network and supports the consolidation of technological sovereignty in critical sectors.
CONUAR is committed to advancing high-value-added solutions aligned with global trends in advanced manufacturing, industrial innovation, and specialized technical education.
